Welcome to the Grand Lake Chapter of CPCU Newsletter!
I shall strive at all times to live by the highest standards of professional conduct;
I shall strive to ascertain and understand the needs of others and place their interests above my own;
I shall strive to maintain and uphold a standard of honor and integrity that will reflect credit on my profession and on the CPCU designation.
We’ve had two CPCU meetings since my last newsletter.
- On March 11th we met for our annual Joint Meeting with the International Association of Insurance Professionals, IAIP. We enjoyed a spirited discussion with Jillian Froment, Deputy Director of the Ohio Insurance Department on the Affordable Health Care Act and its impact on Ohio. During the meeting we honored our past President, Beth Conn, with a Certificate and thanked her for her 2 years as President.
- On May 29th we met for a website review and learned there are more than 22,000 CPCU members worldwide and 140 CPCU Society Chapters. Thanks to Mary Jo Maag for updating our local website and helping me during the presentation. Some of the highlights were:
- The National website can be found by typing www.cpcusociety.org. We were encouraged to click on "Membership/CPCU Society Interest Groups" and sign up for one or more of the 14 interest group newsletters.
- We were also reminded to look into completing the "Continuing Professional Development (CPD)" application which can be found under Education & Events.
- 60 points are needed every two years
- You can receive 30 points for teaching an Institute course. Central’s Training and Education Department Coordinator, Carly Fortman, is currently looking for a teacher for the Associate in General Insurance-INS 22 course that will be starting in August. We had a few volunteers for this fall, but Carly expects more opportunities in the near future. If you are interested in this opportunity to share your knowledge and qualify for CPD Points, let me know.
- We will be offering a Workshop in 2015 for Continuing Education that will qualify for CPD points, more on that later!
- The News & Publication section is filled with an online library and Industry Feeds.
- Our Grand Lake Chapter’s website can be found by searching for chapters by entering in Van Wert’s zip code 45891 or clicking on the link below. https://grandlake.cpcusociety.org/
- Check out the photos of some of recent meetings, a list of our current officers can be found under "About this Chapter" and under "News", a list of our newest Designees. "Local Opportunities" is where you might find current job listings. If your agency or company has job postings, let myself or Mary Jo Maag know so we can update our website.
- Thank you to the members who volunteered to research and recommend one or more areas where our chapter could make a difference. I am looking forward to their report at our next meeting.
