I shall strive to maintain and uphold a standard of honor and integrity that will reflect credit on my profession and on the CPCU designation.
This is hoping that everyone’s new year is off to a good start. Below just a short summary of events, meetings, etc. during the past 6 months for Grand Lake Chapter. It was a very busy and exciting time for the chapter. I just want to thank everyone who played a part in making 2016 a very successful year!
Wednesday, August 17, 2016 – Hawaii Tips and Tricks for New Designees

Thursday, October 6, 2016 - Legislative update, election update, and industry workforce development efforts – Presenter was Dean Fadel; President, Ohio Insurance Institute, presented a lot of interesting factors regarding the insurance industry in the state of Ohio.
Thursday, October 27, 2016 – Inside Looking Out – The food truck business from the owner’s prospective. Presented by Jerry Perez, owner and operator of sol kitchen foods. Amy Grigsby, Commercial Staff Underwriter from Central also provided information regarding food trucks from the underwriting prospective.
Thursday, November17, 2016 – Local Chapter Conferment for New Members
– Michael Hurd, CPCU Chapter Governor along with his 2017 successor, Kevin McEnery presided over the conferment ceremony and presented CPCU pins from the chapter. Congratulations to all!
Michael also discussed CE credits for CPCUs.
Thursday, December 15, 2016 – Chapter Holiday Fun – Planned by Laura Ditto, Penny Duer, and Melissa Hilvers. A different twist on a brainstorming session. Numerous ideas came out of this session. Topics of conversation included: Topics/Format, Engagement, Networking, Social Events, Service and an “Others” topic. The positive thing is that some of the things discussed are already being put into action. Below is a snap shot of some of the ideas that came out of the session. More to come on this!
The Community Good Works Committee News
The Grand Lake CPCU Chapter Good Works Committee organized a volunteer opportunity with the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Auglaize, Mercer, and Van Wert Counties for their “Dancing with the Big Stars” event on November 12, 2016. This is the third year that we sent a group of volunteers to help them with seating, voting, etc. This event is a huge money maker for BBBS. This year was one of the best with fellow Grand Lake CPCU member RJ Coleman as one of the dancing stars.

Dinner Performance was helped by Keith Mulder and his wife, Gayle.
The Good Works Committee is once again planning to take donations of items/money to send care packages to soldiers overseas. They will be sent out in March, 2017. The packages this year will be sent to a Central Mutual employee, Cory Eickholt that is currently stationed in Turkey along with the son of another Central employee (Melanie Bowen) who is in the same unit. If you know any soldier that will be overseas during 2017, please send Callie Byrne an email at cbyrne@central-insurance.com.
You will also being hearing more from this committee regarding additional volunteer opportunities with Blessings in a Backpack. Please feel free to contact any committee member if you have any suggestions of projects we should consider.
