The Community Service committee has announced the next Good Works Project!
As part of our Good Works Projects, the committee has decided to support the AnySoldier project. The details of the organization can be found at: http://www.anysoldier.com. The following two units will be supported by our CPCU Chapter by sending care packages:
• Indiana Air Force Unit stationed in Kuwait (2 males & 3 females)
• Kentucky U.S. Army Unit stationed in Afghanistan (4 males & 7 females)
We need your help in filling these care packages! Each unit has refrigerators and microwaves but there are no cooking facilities in their barracks. The Kentucky unit specifically asked for: feminine hygiene products, shampoo, leave-in conditioner, baby wipes & toilet paper, but anything would be appreciated to boost their morale during the holidays.
We have a chapter meeting on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at noon which will be the day for the collection of these items. Once collected all items will be package sent. The CPCU Chapter will be paying for the postage for these boxes.
Let’s see how many boxes we can fill! Thanks for your support of this project.

Past CPCU Meetings – Update!
- On September 24th 30 members enjoyed a very informative presentation by Melissa Hilvers, Personal Lines Underwriting Specialist, Central Insurance Companies, on “Ridesharing”. This is a fairly new phenomenon where someone transports passengers in their own vehicles for a ‘donation’ and mobile phone apps are used to connect drivers and passengers. State legislators are taking steps to create regulation; however, the personal auto policy cannot be expected to absorb the additional exposure without increased rates, stricter underwriting and even exclusions. I’ve attached a flyer Melissa distributed and below are some links for you to get more information on this booming industry. I’ve asked Melissa to come back next year to give us an update as the issues surrounding ridesharing continue to evolve.

- On October 9th 28 members met at Vantage Career Center in the “Cup and Saucer” restaurant for a presentation on Solar Panels from Phil Denbow, Director of Risk Management Services, The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co. Phil had some interesting information about the insurance risks and hazards that are involved when homeowners and businesses alike install solar arrays. We had a great meal served to us by the students of the Culinary Arts program.
Upcoming Meetings are:
- November 12th At Central Insurance Company in Van Wert at 12:00 noon – Conferment Ceremony with Michael Hurd, CPCU Chapter Governor and Personal Insurance Portfolio Underwriter for State Auto Insurance Companies
Please begin to collect items for our AnySoldier project and bring them to the 11/12/14 meeting!
Respectfully,
